Why work for us?

Lewes district and Eastbourne sit just a few miles apart in East Sussex and both act as a gateway to the stunning South Downs National Park.

Eastbourne is the most populous town in the county and has around 7km of outstanding coastline. It has significant natural environment, much of which is comprised of downland, areas of outstanding natural beauty and sites of special scientific interest.

With its wider geographic spread, Lewes district is comprised equally of coast and countryside. It boasts pretty villages and towns full of history, culture and a spirit of independence. From historic houses to vineyards, farm shops, museums, independent retails and a wealth of artists and makers, the district has a thriving and diverse economy.

The district and borough have a wide range of parks and gardens and significant areas of historic interest, including hundreds of listed buildings and many areas protected with Conservation Area status. They also have a great range of sport and leisure facilities including: an international, high quality tennis centre developed in partnership with the Lawn Tennis Association in Eastbourne; a number of community and local authority sporting facilities; theatres, art galleries and smaller venues.

Eastbourne, Lewes, Seaford and Newhaven have good rail links to London, Gatwick and beyond.

The councils have a single workforce and an organisational culture that encourages innovation, creative thinking and the open sharing of ideas.

Both councils have committed to working with their communities to become carbon neutral by 2030 and also have a strong focus on entrepreneurialism, with a number of local authority owned and controlled companies in its portfolio.
